Feeling burned out sucks. Here's how to get back on track.

Unknown Speaker  0:23

Now, this particular episode is inspired by nine out of 10 conversations that I have with people, either that I'm meeting at a conference, online, offline, or even on LinkedIn, which is the majority of places where I'm having conversations with people. And I

Unknown Speaker  0:40

don't necessarily know that I've spoken a lot about this, but this is one of the topics that because it's literally, like, nine out of 10 people that I'm speaking to have suffered some type of feeling of burnout. And, you know, I

Unknown Speaker  0:55

I guess it's a lot of it's can be understood, because the way that most people are doing

Unknown Speaker  1:02

their lives or corporate life specifically, right? And it's just when you're doing it the way that you're doing it, it's going to very easily lead to burnout, especially when you are a high performer, because you like to do things in a certain way. Ask me how I know

Unknown Speaker  1:19

now I never went through burnout during my corporate career, I actually really, really enjoyed it. I don't need a lot of sleep. I like to keep going and going and going in terms of what is happening, in terms of projects or meeting deadlines and all that cool stuff.

Unknown Speaker  1:33

At the same time, I recognize that it's something that can happen. Now I've been at these points where you wake up in the morning, your mind's on fire, and you got to get to the first task and the next task and the next task and the next task. But I guess fortunately for me, because I didn't need a lot of sleep, still don't need a lot of sleep, but back then, I needed even less. It was one of these things that I started to watch other people that were around me. Or now, when I'm speaking

Unknown Speaker  1:57

to you on a weekly basis, and I just want to stop and talk about it, because it's very easy for you to feel overwhelmed. Or where you get to this point, it's actually just the opposite, like you're overwhelmed and you're like, high strung, and then you get to a point where you just crash and burn because you have super low energy. And it's one of these things where you're just like, I just don't want to I need a break because I can't do anymore. And like I said, it's pretty typical, because when you are the one who's the reliable and the strong one, the one everyone goes to all the time, that's what you want to be known for. You want everything to come to you. And the reality is, is like, yeah, you say that on the outside, but you know what? It would be pretty nice if somebody else would step up to the plate every once in a while so you didn't have to do every single thing. Right?

Unknown Speaker  2:41

Amazing up that would happen, right?

Unknown Speaker  2:43

Because the thing is, is whether you are the head of a business unit, the head of an entire region in your corporate role, or you're the head of household,

Unknown Speaker  2:53

you are used to always being the go to person, the one that gets everything done, the one that does things better than anybody and everybody else. Hey, you know what? Not not someone else doing it at 80%

Unknown Speaker  3:08

and you not having to use 100% of your time, energy or effort, that could be pretty, pretty awesome, too.

Unknown Speaker  3:16

I think I actually just came from a book I recently read so but, but but here's the thing,

Unknown Speaker  3:22

because you're that person, you tend to get into a point where you know what you you do so much, and then all of a sudden you crash and burn. But the thing is, is when you look to the left and you look to the right and your colleagues or your everybody else in the family is smiling and looking good and bright eyed and Bucha, it starts to make you feel like, oh, hang on. It's like, What in the world are you doing? Why were you the person who was like getting to the point of burnout? And it sucks, like I said, it sucks. But here's some of the things where actually there's one thing that you need to do to to be able to get back on track. It's not easy. It's simple. It's very simple. Not necessarily easy. It is simple. And so let me share that with you.

Unknown Speaker  4:00

The thing is, is what you need to do

Unknown Speaker  4:04

is simply stop

Unknown Speaker  4:07

and do this. One thing, that one thing is to get clear.

Unknown Speaker  4:13

You need clarity on what you're doing while you're doing it. Is it aligned with the purpose that you have, that you've talked to, that you've confirmed with yourself and shared with others, loved ones, co workers, bosses,

Unknown Speaker  4:28

your partner, your spouse. That's the important part, because you've got to stop. You've got to stop. You've got to get crystal clear on what it is you want to do, why you want to do it, with whom and when, right once you get those things in line and aligned with the purpose that you have for your life. Burnout is super hard to come across. It's super difficult to come across when you have all that in alignment.

Unknown Speaker  4:53

Trust you're enjoying today's episode. Once again, when you're ready to make your 99 optional, just go to make it optional.com. Once again.

Unknown Speaker  5:00

Make it optional.com. Let's get back to the episode.

Unknown Speaker  5:05

Let me just warn you about one thing, because you're a high achiever. All of your life, everything's come to you. You're the reliable one. Once you put the plan in place, and you get clear on what it is you want to do, why you want to do it, with whom and for whom and when,

Unknown Speaker  5:21

as you start to make the move to actually going from the clarity of the theory to actually living it out, you're going to feel conflicted because you're not used to doing it. It's okay, it's part of the process. Give yourself some grace.

Unknown Speaker  5:38

I said it was simple, not easy, and so I'm telling you that this is going to happen, because when it starts to happen, I want you to reflect on exactly what you're hearing in this episode, because it's part of the process. It's okay give yourself some grace. So while you're feeling a little bit odd about it, don't worry. Here's the thing, it doesn't happen overnight. It never does. It never does. From first conversations that I have with with with with people, especially on on LinkedIn and you and I are having the conversation, to the time that you actually feel okay

Unknown Speaker  6:09

with living out your clarity, eliminating minimizing burnout, it's gonna feel a little bit weird in the beginning. It's gonna feel a little bit weird, but it's okay. It's part of the process, because ultimately, what you're going to know is that

Unknown Speaker  6:26

once you start living in alignment with your purpose and your goals and your crystal clear on why you're doing it, you are going to absolutely love the fact that you are enjoying your work,

Unknown Speaker  6:37

and you're showing up as the person that you Want to be, and it's the best version of you that's the one thing that comes out of this entire process. Once you get clear, get rid of burnout, because it sucks anyway, but being able to walk into the best version of you so that you feel on top of the world and those that you love the most and are impacting the most. Love being around you because you're that version of you. You're energized. You're not burned now. You're energized because you're walking in alignment with your goals, your vision, your priorities. Because you took a moment to get crystal clear and you kicked burnout to the side, right?

Unknown Speaker  7:21

It's a brief episode. It's a real brief episode. But wanted to get to the point, and wanted to share with you, because I hear it so often, I don't want to make this a massive, elaborate thing. It's when you're feeling burned out. This is the one thing that you can do to get back on track. Stop, take time. Get crystal clear

Unknown Speaker  7:38

what it is you want to do, why you want to do it

Unknown Speaker  7:41

for whom and when? Right? Those are the things you need to be asking yourself, so that you get clear and take it from theory to practice. That's the most important thing. Don't just listen to these episodes and then just move on to the next thing. Stop. Try it. You know what? And if you even want to reach out, reach out to me. You know how to get in touch with me. I ain't hard to find, as Dion says anyway, so that's that. Enjoy it. Guess what I'm going to be doing while you are sharing today's episode with family friends. You're talking about it. You're taking it from theory to action. I'll be right here. Yes, I will be I'll be preparing, but I got tongue tied there. I'll be preparing for the next episode. So until then, go out and make it a great day. And thank you very, very much

Unknown Speaker  8:23

freedom.
